Beachwood Sparks "The Tarnished Gold" - 2012LP

There are a few quintessential Los Angeles experiences....The Walk of Fame, surfing Porto, The Hollywood Bowl, riding a cruiser in Venice, doing blow with Charlie Sheen, collecting unemployment, and oh so many smore......This morning I experienced one of those moments......I did blow with Charlie Sheen.  No really.....I drove in a convertible down the PCH.  In my over a decade in LA I had yet to ride in a convertible down the PCH.....Exiting Santa Monica at the beginning of our journey to Malibu my buddy hit me on the shoulder "What should we listen to???"....Holy Shiot what pressure......Beach Boys? Jackson Brown? Warren Zevon?...All the obvious choices crossed my mind.....then I remembered a brand new album that was passed my way (thank you LF).  They were suppose to be the Laurel Canyon/freak-folk/SoCal surf laid back beach vibe/type of band.....Oh boy.....They were.......and they were so much more.  The Beachwood Sparks have perfectly bottled up Los Angeles....When you spray the contents of the bottle you are immediately transported to the front seat of a convertible riding down the PCH.......with Charlie in the back handing you key bumps........this album is very good:

Badass.....Steve McQueen was badass...bacon is badass.....Basquiat was badass......Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound are badass too...Matter 'o fact they are one of the best around at carrying the psychedelic torch from the 60s/early70s...Warning: This album may melt your face & induce visuals such as Camaros driving fast through the desert, leprechauns surfing on rainbows, & ferris wheels of color throughout the sky.....roll one up Johnny and psych the eff-out from one of my fav labels Tee Pee Records:

Why does this keep happening to me? For the past 2 weeks I've been putting on the headphones.....and each time the sounds coming through the speakers cannot be from 2012...There is just no way retro-musack is getting soooooo good.....Is it really 1972?....1968?....Ya'll be messin' with me?.....Monophonics just cannot be from 2012....This album is sick....and FUNKY.....After the first listen I told my girlfriend she owes me money.....She doesn't...but she does neow....and i best get paid.....retro/funk/San Francisco/soul/filthy guitar work/soulful lyrics.....goddamn child get in my six Fo chevy and let's ride woman:

Tick tock tick tock tick tock....Close your eyes.....Inhale think of the ocean......Exhale think of the sky.....You are getting sleepy.....What was the happiest day of your life?......Okay, open your mouth in the shape of an egg.....BLahahahahahahahahha!!! No way i could ever be a hypnotist......Guys if you followed all that, yer parents know you rollerblade....Girls if you did....please send pics......I've been doing other creepy things too.....I've been following a band....I've been tracking the progress of a úber (whoops no dots)  underground performer that could change the way we make and discuss musack....Guess what....he did it....Monster Rally first caught mine eye in 2010 with a little album.....Their 2012 follow-up is a little more mature/polished.....this is sampling/dubstep/chill/tropical....done right.  Now remember kids this album has slight ambient influences and therefore does not have lyrics or singing....For some of you kids from the 80s that's a problem cuz you're prob addicted to the interweb (facebook) and have the attention span of Chip's weiner at a parade......hahahahah...(sorry dude)....JUst get this....it's so rad:
