Last Remaining Pinnacle "Visitors" - 2012 LP

I had to personally deliver one of my paintings to Santa Cruz......Sometimes, with insurance, it is the most practical thing to do....I took my albums for the day with me in the truck.....At some point on the over 300 mile drive from LA.... I couldn't handle anymore hooks.....I couldn't handle any pop or any rhymes or anything in the realm of cheese.....I needed to drone the eff out....Last Remaining Pinnacle brought the drone.....As a matter of fact they brought a lot more than that.....With elements and influences that span from Acid Mother Temple psych to Jesus Mary Chain fuzz.....Last Remaining Pinnacle makes solid droned-out/fuzz/retro stoner rock.......So as the night bounces off the highway floor I couldn't help but think.......these guys are rad:

Purity Ring "Shrines" - 2012 LP

The longer I am a full-time artist, the less I see genres....The less there is a difference between rock and jazz....The less there is a difference between portrait painting and say....installation.......At the core they are all a pure expression of the human condition....A person's vision or the collective vision of a group....An artist is typically obsessed with a number of other artists.....These obsessions are labeled as "influences"....All great artists study their influences....Purity Ring are an extremely unique duo with a lot of influences.....some are bands....Kraftwerk, My Bloody Valentine.....some are performers.....Brian Eno, Patrick Gleeson.....and some are certainly substancesssssss.....Ha....For a debut album, "Shrines" a is very very good album.....electronica/synth/female airy vox/heavy lyrics/ethereal/excellent:

Frank Ocean "channel ORANGE" (Explicit Version) - 2012 LP

Holy hipster Batman.....Can you yawn in a movie theater and next thing you know you're tonsils deep with your loved one?....Do you open every door for that special someone?....Can you spread one cheek and sneak a phantom out unbenounced to your partner?...If so, you are smooth....Frank Ocean is smooth....Like real smooth....Oh mayn...the blogoshpere is creamin' over this kid...and for a darn good reason...This is r&b/hip hop/smooth rhymes/at it's finest....Did you forget butter on your toast?.....Frank Ocean has got something for ya:

The Dig "Midnight Flowers" - 2012 LP

Whew.....man.....Where to start with this one.....You know....The music industry is effed....I realized this is a dead horse by now.....Something will have to give....Spotify, Grooveshark, or whatever other lame service will not suffice....The selection is just too piss poor....They do not have 'taste makers' worth a crap....So many great bands are not being heard....I've always enjoyed art (painting) because at the end of the day their is a finalized product to sell....With music it's thin air.....it's vapor....that means the only way bands can make a living is by hoping in a van and playing their aces off all over the cOUntry....The Dig are my kind of vapor....It's been awhile since I have heard just plain and simple 'good' music.....That's right....what a novel idea.....There is no glitch-hop or witch rave or chillghey or other disclaimer attached.  The Dig just play great rock music.  Midnight Flowers is an easy palatable album with a number of great songs....they're rad:
