I met a hooker in Thailand. Yeah, well, that's easy to do....but she was different. We had great conversation about music, art, and travel. We drank Singha's and strolled the beach. At the end of the night I made my move. We touched lips and our bodies embraced under the gold moon. I started to feel something strange on my thigh...I looked down....This fucking chick has a boner....hahahahahah...The moral of that fable is: Things aren't always what they seem kids....Ducktails makes weird hazy/fuzzed-out/chillwave music right? Well not anymore....The Flower Lane takes Ducktails in an entirely different direction.....Matt Mondanile of Real Estate brings it on this one...a very hard album to categorize....And no...I never saw shim again:

On my last visit home I went into the attic....Ducking through cobwebs and leaning over like a Being John Malkovich Office....I found all my old baseball cards, rad Starter jackets, and Star Wars figures. Treasures. Every now and then when you search....you find treasure. Unkown Mortal Orchestra is a treasure. They sound like they have been "un-earthed"....Preserved.....These badass makers of lo-fi are back....and this time they brought some funk....sooooooooo good....pre-this geekout:

There is a way to progress as an artist. Take a risk. Now, this does not mean do something "offensive" or "edgy". The risk could be toning down. The risk is exploration. The exploration is excavating the end product.....Putting it all out there. The people who have done it before (i.e. influences) are there as a road map. You can't just cherry pick techniques from other artists you dig....The end product has to be yours....your vision....your sound....you. I remember college kids passing around early Jack White recordings.....I don't even think it was under White Stripes.....I think back to those tapes when I hear White Stripe's "De Stijl"....I remember when Tame Impala/Pond was just a 3 chord heavy'drone psych-rock band....Then BOOOOM....Innerspeaker....A masterpiece our kids will ask us about.....How did they do it? How did they make a huge leap in short time? Lord Huron did it, Grizzly Bear did it....and now Local Natives have done it. They all took a risk:

If you know Toro y Moi you're probably a honky and listen to too much NPR.....hahaha...I kid, I kid...No really, if you know Toro y Moi you're very excited for this album. As you should be.....it's spectacular. One of the, now forefathers, of 'chillwave' is back and the sound is more full, more bliss, and more more.
