Family Band "Grace & Lies" - 2012 LP

Mermaids.......My girlfriend is convinced they exist....Now, I might have an alternative view.....but I support her darn-it.....If she thinks half-human, half-fish-ish creatures evolved from mammals leaving land and returning to the ocean....then by-God she's right.  Hell, people believe a lot crazier things.....You think a channel as prestigious as The History Channel (or was it Animal Planet?) would make something up?...Invent a species? Look at Chick-Fil-A.....They believe marriage is between a man and woman....And they are one of the world leading experts on chicken......Oh wait, chickens don't have anything to do with the sanctity of marriage?....Personally, I believe Chick-Fil-A should be open on Sundays and chickens are gay. Family Band might have invented a genre of music.....Some odd folk/dream-pop/drone/subtle audio free-for-all......How do you categorize this album?....It's part human, part fish....It's dark and eeire and well crafted.....and kinda ghey.....Highly recommend this album....It flips all rules on their head and will convince you marriage should be between a man and a mermaid....only.

A Digital Era:  Everyday my studio neighbor brings me the paper....And everyday the newspaper becomes my drop cloth....The news catches all my paint, glue, and mustard from the day.  Today I decided to read the newspaper...I turned to the Calendar Section (LA Times does not have an art section)....Everything.....simply everything was old news.  I flipped back to the front page.  Old news.  As a matter 'o fact they were missing a lot of current news.  Then 'ding'.  My iPhone beeped.  Amurrica had just won gold in Men's 100M swimming.  Of course this was nowhere to be found in the paper.  How?...How can they possibly compete?....Well, they can't.  Paper is dead.  Print is dead.  We are currently shedding our old means of communication and replacing them with quicker ones....Instantaneous ones.  The evolution of information sharing has had a drastic impact on music.  Anyone and their dog can record an album.  Real musicians are being replaced by DJs.  The new Cat Power is an illustration of the evolution.  On "Sun" Chan Marshall progresses her usual bluesy-R&B music with a more digital version. The result is an established, respected artist showing she can keep up with the newbies......excellent/rock/pop/synth elements/beat/of course amazn vox.....

If you're my age you probably remember when baseball cards were a big deal....Your father prob got back into buying trading cards as well....He could live vicariously through the resurgence and forever begrudge his mother for throwing away his original collection.....You more than likely owned a flannel shirt, cut holes in your jeans, and prob dyed your hair after you saw the "Longview" video for the first time....In a time when there was a serious drought in female vocalists, out comes Fiona Apple.....Tidal came totally out of left field.....It didn't fit into any current trends.....It couldn't be categorized as "rock" or "pop" or "grunge".....It was an original....An album that only comes around once a decade.....You prob sat in your first car next to public parks with your first love and hashed out arguments, made out, and smoked your first cigs...For a lot of us Fiona Apple was a major part of our teenage years and with her only 4th album she proves that quality has staying power.....And as for your enormous quantity of baseball cards now in your parent's attic?....Guess twat?....They're not worth shit and they never will be again:

Crocodiles "Endless Flowers" - 2012 LP

Did your friend just buy skinny jeans and a scarf?.....Did he dye his hair black and get a ducktail?.....Does he constantly bring up the Smiths and drink espressos?...Is your friend homo?  No, your friend has turned 'emo'....It is very similar to homo but involves way more buttplay.....Really, the Crocodiles first got my attention back in 2009 with their single "I Wanna Kill" (such a rad song)....These young San Diego natives rock.....They play their emo/indie/wall'oSound/Cure influenced.....with an edge.......it's badace and makes me wanna buy pointy shoes and drive a scooter.......gf

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes....Bust out the whiskey and Marlboro Reds....Somebody throw meees a cole PBR....This is what I'm talking abOUt....Kids, this is the real fucking deal.  Ty Segall, indie garage rock God, has teamed with San Franchisko's, White Fence.  The album is raukous/garage/filthy geetar work/fuzzed out reverb/slap happy goodness....This album is spectacular....In the top 3 I've heard this chear.....The funny thing is at this very moment my girlfriend is watching Bravo and i have headphones in (psych, hooked too).....I might rob a liquor store tonight.....
