    Water Liars (self-titled) - 2014 LP

The truth. Southern writer Barry Hannah, writes about being "crucifed by the truth."  In his short story "Water Liars,"  after a few too many drinks, Hannah and his wife open up about their sexual past.  The revelation of hearing his wife's sordid past is too much for the writer to bear.  He retreats to a fictional cove for a hillbilly vacation. While drinkin' beer and listening to the water liars tell their stories an older man offers a rare treat.  The truth.  He tells a story so honest and vile that the water liars shun the elder from the group.  Suddenly stories of the one that got away seem trivial. Hannah befriends the man and walks away with a new appreciation of the truth. Water Liars (the band, named after the Hannah short story) have the same devotion to the truth.  Every song, every lyric, offers the same catfish noir a great Barry Hannah novel offers.

    Doug Tuttle (self-titled) - 2014 LP

A great piece of art has a controlled spontaneity.  A "controlled spontaneity?"  Well that's counter intuitive.  John Graham writes about a non-absolute happening erupting from the subconscious in "Systems of Dialectics of Art."  The moment.  The "wow".  A great work of art captures the wow throughout its entirety.  There is no difference in the capture between painting, music, writing, dancing,...whatever.  All forms of art and all artists strive for the moment and like facing a beehive deadpan....it's difficult. Doug Tuttle has captured the spectacular.  For right under 40 minutes Tuttle transports the listener, drops their jaw, melts their face, and lets you have a glimpse into the pscyhe of an artist creating effortlessly.  One of the best albums you will hear this year:

    Allah-Las (self-titled) - 2012 LP

The 1960s in Southern California had to be a great time.....Surfing, convertibles, bikinis, and rad psychedelic drugs....kidding....rad psychedelic MUSIC.  The genre has sustained the test of time.  Sooooooo many bands nowadays kill for the fuzzed-out/sun halo/surf psych groovy feeling.....Many...well almost all....the bands fail. The Allah-Las have not failed.  As a matter of fact they nailed it.......and "it" is fun...."it" is groovy....and "it" rocks......dig?
