Spiritualized "Sweet Heart Sweet Light" - 2012 LP

Once upon a time....in a land far far away....the rain beat down for days in Norman, Oklahoma.  Being a junior at the University of Oklahoma I was at the height of my "culture seeking".  For most college students the Oklahoma rain and snow meant mud parties or the weed olympics.  For me it meant painting.  Feverishly painting and cranking new music.  I knew art was my ticket....My only salvation.....A dear friend of mine braved the weather conditions to bring me an album......After a couple Milwaukee Best he put on the record.  After 30 seconds I think I fainted.....What was this sound?  THIS WAS IT.....This is what i had been searching for!!! Finally in the middle of bum-eff Okie-homa I had fOUnd it....Or better yet, it found me......The album was Spacemen 3 "The Perfect Prescription" (proof good musack was made in the 80s).  I have ever since followed the career of Jason Spaceman intently.....So when he announced his new project Spiritualized back in the early 90s.....I was beyond stoked.  "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space" is one of the greatest albums of the 90s (sorry grunge).  Up there with Nevermind......Spiritualized newest album "Sweet Heart Sweet Light" is the same psychodelic/entering heaven/retro rock/gospel/vein.....it's another gem:

Dinosaur Feathers "Whistle Tips" - 2012 LP

For some reason I bought the new Rolling Stone Magazine.....It's their "500 Greatest Albums" edition....Well i've had it sitting next to my color palette at the studio for abOUt a month....Soooo i decided to crack 'er open today.....Sgt. Peppers #1....Pet Sounds #2....Revolver #3....Dylan....more Beatles.....Wait a minute???? white....white....white.....white.....chardonnay.....What racist cracker motherfucker wrote this list???? It's all white dudes for over 10 pages.....AHAHAHAHHAHAHAH!!! Trust me.....the people who wrote this list are white and haven't had to struggle too hard for much.....Oh mayan!!! Where the eff is Robert Johnson?....Muddy Waters?....Son House?....They're kinda responsible for every album on your pleated khaki colored list morons.....Don't get me wrong.....I love me a good racist joke.....(yeah i said it)....but c'mon....this list is downright an outrage.....That being said I'm glad they put The Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" at #2....That American treasure of an album rarely gets the credit it deserves.....Need proof? Cut to 46 years later... their influence is stronger than ever......Dinosaur Feathers are rare....Pulling off upbeat/pop/vox wall harmonies/twee elements/non linaer songs.....is hard to do....."Whistle Tips" is one of the better pop albums i've heard in 2012.....You know your friend who has a band and you always gotta go see them live and it kinda blahs?....Dinosaur Feathers could easily be that band....but they are rad:

Dr. John "Locked Down" - 2012 LP

My studio is my office, my sanctuary, my retreat.  I'm there everyday and everyday an idea is executed or a project is completed...Picasso completed over 50,000 paintings....I want to beat that......Other than studio visits, the occasional assistant, or a client dropping by to say hi......I'm there alone.....Total isolation....Complete knuckle to the grindstone creativity.....The only road block bringing my ideas to life is....myself.....Today I do not feel alone.....there is something or somebody in the studio....I can't see anyone near me...I didn't invite anyone today.....but something is here....a presence.....voodoo baby....What happens when Dan Auerbach from The Black Keys gets ahold of a music legend???? Apparently magic.....voodoo magic.  Dr. John is one of America's greatest treasures.  An icon.  The Dr.'s 2012 effort, with the help of Auerbach, is sure to be on a majority of "Best Of" lists this year.....This album is silly good....gospel rock/afro beat elements/retro rock/part psych/a little bit of everything in this dark rockin' masterpiece:

Beach House "Bloom" - 2012 LP

Oh mang....Okay....we get it Beach House....You are effing rad....the t-mcgee...One of the best bands OUt there.....And their 2012 effort Bloom does not dissapoint.....Soooooooo good/super modern/dance elements/pop rock/Sub-Pop is crushing it!!!
