    Phosphorescent "Muchacho" - 2013 LP

At 25 yrs. old there could have been worse places to be stuck.  I woke up on a balcony my 10th day in Tulum, Mexico.  The sides of my mouth were foamed shut by dehydration.  My body trembled from too much tequila and horror was thick as fog.  Completely out of cash, no phone, and no return ticket.....You could say I was fucked.  Weeaaaal bad.  The point of the trip was to "get away"....to isolate and create.  I took it too far.  So far that I might not come back....or when I did I would not be the same.  The greatest artists struggle.  The struggle is as important to art as the brush or the guitar to a musician.  The artists that persevere through the struggle come out the stronger artist.  In 2011 after a massive tour Phosphorescent was burnt out.  He came home to Brooklyn only to find he'd lost his apartment and studio.  The following Sunday he booked a ticket to Tulum, Mexico.  When he returned he brought Muchacho.  An album that is a departure from his usual country fried rock twang.  Muchacho is more of an exploration into the surreal/Americana meets electronica/chant.....Simply one of the best albums you will hear in 2013.  It's a masterpiece:

The Flaming Lips "The Terror" - 2013 LP

Everyone told us Cry Baby Bridge in Alderson, Oklahoma was haunted.  My brothers and I didn't believe them.  We defended the creek by day.  Matthew, the youngest and most fearless, would climb down sewer drains and cram his hand into rotted tree trunks searching for intruders.  Jonathan, the strongest, would lift rocks chasing snakes and capture crawdads.  All day the creek was quiet.....One day we finally managed enough courage to stay the night.  Legend had it, nightfall you could hear the crying of a dead woman mourning her child and see her ghost.  As the sun went down we prepared our fort with rocks, spears, and arrowheads....Pretty sure face paint was involved.  The anticipation of the ghost shot jolts of terror through our veins and kept us up all night.  The ghost never came.  The Flaming Lips "The Terror" isn't the ghost....It's the waiting for the ghost.....A departure from their normal Zappa-meets-Okie-spaceballs and a little more serious.....excellent:

Indians "Somewhere Else" - 2013 LP

Women watch the shittiest television.   I'm not one of those artists who condemns television.  I will get the eff down with some Doomsday Preppers, Duck Dynasty, and Mudcats.  However, my roommate (girlfriend) (she loves it when i call her that) watches the worst of all.....A show so depraved.....so vile....I can barely stand to be in the room......Dance Moms.  Basically, it's Jabba the Hut yellin' at a bunch of 6yr old girls......But with every relationship you gotta step outside yourself a bit.  Tonight I couldn't handle....I would have rather shoved a #2 pencil in my ear than listen to that heifer.  I put on my headphones to Indians.  Instantly transported away from the she-devil yelling at children to a holy place.  A place underwater.  A place where you float....and transport wearing google glasses....and shit like that....And as the young children learn to keep rhythm and contort their bodies for adult creepy judges.....I finally sat with a smile. Thank you 4AD:

Psychic Ills "One Track Mind" - 2013 LP

My last visit to New York someone threw me two pills.....A cab screeched to a curb and a staggering blonde hipster reached out her skinny arm.....Being a concerned citizen I examined the pillz....I had a choice.  Take the pill in my left hand or take the pill in my right.  Not known for moderation, I took them both.....The next 6hrs my eyelids weighed a ton, moments of fright, moments of pleasure, and all chop full of blissful terror....I imitated a zombie on the sidewalks, searching for the girl.  I found Hennipin's, Camel Lights, and dingy Irish bars.....Pretty sure I stumbled into a Psychic Ills show.....that, or the city was blarring the album through the drains, manholes, and buildings......Sacred Bones Records has a helluva lineup when it comes to psych-rock.....So if you like 'la especial' mushrooms in your tea from time to thyme....Sacred is the label for you:
